FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to some common questions

Transportation

Our tours take place in The Netherlands. Many of the locations of the mills and star forts are quite off the beaten path. For this reason we arrange for all transportation during the Tour. This includes airfare to The Netherlands, though airfare from the East Coast is what is budgeted in the price.

Preparation

Getting ready for a week of mills or star fort visits means walking. Most of the cities and towns we will be visiting have beautiful medieval centers which make use of cars difficult. There may be chances to ride bicycles, but this will be an option, not a requirement.

Trip Preparation

The Netherlands is a first world country. One of the richest nations in the world. Although you can find trouble if you want to, in general it is one of the safest places on earth.

Comfortable clothes, suited for the season. Clothes that are good for walking and climbing in.

Shoes: sturdy, comfortable, work shoes that have been broken in (breaking in shoes during the trip will cause blisters and reduce enjoyment).

We’ll be doing quite a bit of walking, so bring a pair of comfortable walking shoes as well.

The Netherlands is one of the wettest places in Europe. Expect rain, plan for rain and if we don’t get rain then you’ll not need them, but don’t count on it.

The Netherlands is a rich country. Everything that you might want or need is available.

Weapons are illegal in The Netherlands so please don’t bring any. If you are a pocket knife type of person, you can bring one in your check in baggage, but you shouldn’t be needing it.
