ABOUT US

Our Story

Chris West lived in the Netherlands during the 2000's. A stay-at-home Dad with two young children, Chris studied Mechanical Engineering at night. His passion for history drove him to learn about the city he lived in, Amsterdam. The longer he lived there the more of this wonderful country he explored and the more about its past. During one of these trips, Chris was introduced to the star fort at Bourtange. There he ran into his first windmill. A Standerd mill. From here Chris decided to become a volunteer Dutch windmiller. It takes three years of Saturdays (three years of every Saturday) to finish the requirements needed to qualify to take the entrance exam to become a certified Dutch Miller. Fortunately Chris' family was behind his passion 100%, and still is. Chris loves to share his experience and knowledge of mills, cities, towns, food, culture, everything about The Netherlands. It is this passion which helped to create Dutch Mill Tours (although we do other tours as well).

Our Mission

We strive to create an experience you would not be able to find anywhere else Some in this world are attracted by technical things. Devices, machines, artificats created to make our lives better. Others fancy history - learning about how our ancestors lived and survived. There are then those few who like both. That is the target audience of these tours. If you like the history of technology then our tours are for you.
